Using an Egg Donor

Building Your Family with Egg Donation at Ohio Reproductive Medicine

At Ohio Reproductive Medicine, we understand that the journey to parenthood can present unique challenges. For individuals and couples who may require assistance, utilizing donor eggs offers a promising path to achieving your dream of having a child.

Who Might Consider Using Donor Eggs?

Egg donation can be a beneficial option for:
  • Women Experiencing Premature Ovarian Failure: This condition leads to early menopause before the age of 40, affecting approximately 1% of women.
  • Women with Diminished Ovarian Reserve: Often age-related, this involves a decline in both the quantity and quality of a woman’s eggs.
  • Individuals Concerned About Genetic Disorders: Those with a history of genetic diseases may opt for donor eggs to reduce the risk of transmission to their offspring.
  • Women Who Have Undergone Ovarian Removal: Surgical removal of the ovaries eliminates the source of eggs necessary for conception.
  • Women with Unsuccessful IVF Attempts: Previous IVF failures may be attributed to issues with egg quality or quantity.
  • Same-Sex Male Couples: Male couples desiring to build a family can utilize donor eggs in conjunction with a gestational carrier.

Using an Egg Donor

Our team at ORM will provide you with highly reputable egg banks. The process includes:
  1. Selecting an Egg Donor: We provide access to a diverse pool of thoroughly screened egg donors. You can review detailed profiles to choose a donor whose characteristics align with your preferences.
  2. Synchronization and Preparation: To enhance the likelihood of a successful pregnancy, we synchronize the menstrual cycles of the egg donor and the recipient. This involves hormonal treatments to prepare the recipient’s uterus for embryo implantation.
  3. Egg Retrieval and Fertilization: The donor undergoes a minimally invasive procedure to retrieve mature eggs. These eggs are then fertilized with sperm from the intended parent or a selected donor in our state-of-the-art laboratory.
  4. Embryo Transfer: Once fertilized, the resulting embryos are cultured, and a healthy embryo is selected for transfer into the recipient’s uterus.
  5. Pregnancy Support: Following the embryo transfer, we provide ongoing monitoring and support throughout the early stages of pregnancy to ensure the best possible outcome.
